SP Series Hollow Linear Shaft

SP Series Hollow Linear Shaft

A Versatile Hardened Shaft Designed for Demanding Conditions
The SP series is a precision linear hardened shaft with a hollow core, high-frequency hardened surface, and hard chrome plating. Manufactured from high-strength bearing steel (GCr15) or carbon structural steel (S45C), the surface achieves extremely high hardness (HRC58-62 or higher) through high-frequency hardening, and is then hard chrome plated to enhance corrosion resistance and wear resistance. This design achieves lightweight construction and internal wiring capabilities while ensuring extremely low wear rate and ultra-long service life when used with linear bearings, making it an ideal choice for high-speed, high-load, and long-life automated equipment.

Technology

This product integrates the essence of materials, processes, and design, surpassing standard polished shafts in multiple dimensions.

Characteristic Dimensions SP Series High-Frequency Hardened and Chrome-Plated Hollow Hard Shafts Standard chrome-plated guide shaft (unhardened surface) Core Values
Core Positioning A long-lasting, highly wear-resistant, integrated solution for heavy-duty applications. An economical, general-purpose guidance solution. Provides durable performance for applications with high PV values (pressure × velocity).
Surface Hardness and Wear Resistance Exceptional performance. Dual protection via high-frequency hardening and hard chrome plating, with a surface hardness of ≥HRC58, delivering a wear life 5–10 times longer than standard chrome-plated shafts. Standard. Relying solely on the chrome plating, with a hardness of approximately HV800, it is prone to wear. Significantly reduces maintenance frequency and spare parts costs, making it particularly suitable for high-speed, heavy-duty or high-frequency reciprocating motion.
Materials and Performance GCr15: Bearing steel, offering excellent hardenability, good core toughness and strong overall load-bearing capacity.
S45C: Carbon structural steel, offering better value for money, with equally outstanding wear resistance after surface hardening.
Typically made from S45C or low-carbon steel. Offers a range of material options to meet varying budget and overall performance requirements.
Lightweighting and Integration Excellent. The hollow structure significantly reduces weight, whilst the internal through-hole allows for cable and pipe routing, enhancing equipment integration and aesthetics. Solid construction, heavy weight, and no provision for internal cabling. Offers the benefits of lightweight construction and a clean layout even in applications requiring long service life.
Dimensional Tolerances Outer diameter: Can be precision ground to tolerances such as h5, h6, g6, etc., according to customer requirements.
Bore tolerance: Subject to tube manufacturing processes, standard tolerances apply; custom modifications are not typically available.
Outer diameter tolerances are usually standard grade. High-precision outer diameters ensure a precise fit and low clearance with linear bearings; inner bores must be selected according to standard specifications.
Straightness and Accuracy High. Following precision straightening and grinding, excellent straightness is achieved, meeting the requirements for precision guidance. Standard straightness. Lays the foundation for smooth, high-speed operation.

Technical Details: Materials, Processes, and Selection Guide
1. Material Selection Guide:
GCr15 (Bearing Steel): Recommended for applications subject to high impact loads, high alternating stresses, or requiring extremely high overall rigidity. It has high core strength and superior fatigue resistance.
S45C (Carbon Structural Steel): Recommended for applications where surface wear resistance is the primary requirement and the load is relatively stable. It offers better cost-effectiveness and is the economical choice for most applications.

2. Core Process Chain:
Precision tube manufacturing → High-frequency induction hardening (surface hardening only, core remains tough) → Precision straightening → Centerless grinding of the outer diameter (to specified tolerance) → Hard chrome plating (thickness typically 5-20μm) → Final polishing/straightening.

3. Three Key Steps for Selection:
1. Determine Function and Material: Confirm whether internal wiring is required and select GCr15 or S45C material based on load characteristics.
2. Determine Dimensions:
Outer Diameter and Tolerance: Determine the outer diameter based on the load and linear bearing model, and specify the mating tolerance (e.g., g6 for precision floating, h6 for general guidance).
Inner Diameter: Select the standard inner diameter specification based on the maximum outer diameter of the cables/pipes that need to pass through. 3. Length and Processing: Confirm the total length and whether processing is required at both ends (e.g., threading, drilling, chamfering).

Applications
The SP series hollow linear shaft is designed for the following fields with demanding requirements for wear resistance and reliability:
High-speed automation and robotics: Guide shafts for automotive welding production lines and high-speed packaging machinery, subjected to high-frequency reciprocating motion.
Precision machine tools and logistics equipment: Support and guide shafts for CNC machine tool tool magazines and automated warehouse stacking machines.
Injection molding and die-casting machinery: Arm guide shafts for manipulators and take-out machines, operating in dusty and high-temperature environments.
Any existing linear shaft applications where wear failure leads to frequent downtime and high maintenance costs.

The SP series hollow linear shaft redefines the standard for high-performance linear shafts. It successfully combines the convenience of internal integration, the dynamic advantages of overall lightweight design, and the lasting reliability of superior surface wear resistance. Choosing this product means you no longer have to make painful trade-offs between "function," "performance," and "lifespan." It is both a "smart choice" to upgrade your equipment design and a "reliable anchor" to ensure continuous and stable operation of your production line – a wise investment for future manufacturing.

Important Note: When inquiring or placing an order, please be sure to specify: 1. Material (GCr15/S45C); 2. Outer diameter and tolerance grade; 3. Inner bore standard size; 4. Total length and end processing requirements. This will ensure you receive a product that perfectly meets your expectations.
